WHO WE ARE: We are a small, but mighty, rescue
organization located in Zachary, Louisiana. We are a 501(c)3
non-profit, foster based general breed dog rescue. We are 100%>
volunteer and 100% of all donations go directly to the care of the pups
we rescue.
WHAT WE DO: We help reunite lost pets with their
owners, as well as rescue abused, neglected & abandoned pups in our
area. Once rescued, we LUV them back to life through our foster
based program. We take care of all medical needs, including up-to-date
vaccinations/rabies & heart worm preventative. We then spay/neuter
and microchip ALL dogs. Finally, we find the perfect fur-ever family
for each dog, using our due diligence adoption procedures.
HISTORY & MISSION: Our founder, Cindy Shotwell, created a Facebook page back in 2012 to help reunite lost pets with their owners (Lost Pets of Zachary, LA & the Felicianas).
The page began with just a few followers, but quickly had a few
thousand followers. She soon realized that the page was less of a “please help me find my lost pet” page & more of a “please help me find a home for a pet I found” page.
Sadly, a large part of the area in southern Louisiana where Cindy
lives has no animal control whatsoever. That fact, combined with the
abundance of dumped and abandoned dogs, leaves the shelters very
overcrowded. Most of the shelters in the area still euthanize on a
regular basis. Due to the huge numbers of dogs found on the highways
and rural areas, she, along with a fellow rescue friend, began actively
rescuing the dogs and fostering them until finding homes or other
rescues to take them in. Eventually, it became too expensive to pay
for all of their medical needs. Relying on her previous years of both
rescue and business experience, Cindy formed a 501(c)3 non profit to
serve the local area. After negotiating discounted veterinary
services, joining dog food banks, creating social media spaces,
marketing, fundraising and forming a foster network, Must Luv Dogs
Rescue was born. She quickly found some like minded friends to serve
as board members and officers. Together they saved the lives of over
110 dogs in their first 12 months! With the hard work of fellow board
members and officers, as well as volunteers, fosters and the community,
Must Luv Dogs Rescue continues to grow and save the lives of some of
these precious friends in fur.
